Our Orchards Love the Climate and Care They Receive at Belle Farms!

Often compared to the Mediterranean region, the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains provide the perfect combination of sun, soil and climate to produce high-quality, flavorful olives that yield award-winning olive oil. Our seven-acre orchard was planted in 1999 and consists of approximately 1,360 trees. The majority are Tuscan varieties that were propagated from cuttings imported from Italy. A small percentage of trees are form Spain, Greece and France.

Our orchards are sustainably farmed. We use hand and mechanical cultivation methods to control weeds and gophers. Registered organic products are used to control pests and disease. Composting and cover crops provide micro-nutrients to the soil to maintain a healthy orchard and provide erosion control. The entire orchard is under a drip irrigation system that incorporates solar power and utilizes an existing reservoir, avoiding the need to irrigate from a well.

The annual olive harvest is done by hand with care. The olives are removed from branches at varying stages of ripeness to create a complex blend of flavors and characteristics. The olives fall onto tarps laid under the trees, then are collected into bins and transported to the olive mill where they are cold-pressed within 24-hours so you can enjoy optimal freshness, flavor and health benefits.
